SpaceX
August 5th 2008 at 12:24 pm
This weekend I watched the live launch of SpaceX’s third attempt to shoot a rocket into space. It failed, sadly. New Scientist’s Henry Spencer has a run down of what may have caused it and what it means here. I did spot that another $20 million in funds had been scared up by SpaceX, so […]
Can you dig it? New Tor.com site launches
July 20th 2008 at 2:19 pm
The new Tor.com just went live. Stories by Charles Stross and John Scalzi, blog posts by different people, awesome art galleries.
And for one additional week, all the novels they gave away free during the entire lead-up process are here on the web. I wondered why Ragamuffin had suddenly shot up to the #70th best selling […]

My buddy Shaun Farrell at Singularity Audio has dropped me a note to let me know he is open for business, making audio ads for writers or publishers. There’s more info at his site. He also can help make podcasts, or whatever else you’re interested that involves audio and online tech.

May 29th 2008 at 7:41 am
I spent several minutes this morning setting up twitter so that I could SMS (phone text message) into it. Twitter updates my facebook status. I have 145 contacts in my Facebook profile, more than in my address book formally. My blog is refed to LiveJournal, and also to MySpace.
Over the last couple months people have […]

March 21st 2008 at 1:00 pm
Jason Sanford points out that Larry Sessions is proposing honoring Arthur C. Clarke by naming the recent amazing gamma ray burst after him:
As Jason points out:
NASA said this explosion was “the most intrinsically bright object ever observed by humans in the universe.” I can think of no better tribute than to name this event for […]
Blews
March 20th 2008 at 6:03 am
Microsoft has a project going to sort incoming links to a news story based on political bent of the blog and by the emotional response of the linking blog text.
I’m quite intrigued, as I’m always trying tools that will blunt any attempt by myself to surround myself and read only people who think exactly like […]
iPhone vs BlackBerry
March 3rd 2008 at 5:29 pm
A nice TUAW article about the iPhone vs BlackBerry. Much the same things I was weighing as I considered which to get, it was the BB Curve vs the iPhone, each had its pros and cons, a very tough choice, but eventually it was iPhone.
My friend Scott did have a bit of an edge with […]

Yeah, I joined twitter. I put the updates in a bar on the right hand area of the blog, or you can follow my twits in any other fashion you prefer…

Simon Owens has an in depth article up that looks in depth at the increasing numbers of genre e-zines, how they make a go of it, along with interview comments from the people associated with the projects.
SpaceShipTwo
January 28th 2008 at 11:49 pm
I really am psyched to see this mockup of the design for SpaceShip Two (the one that will be taking passengers up to the edge of space and back via Virgin Galactic) that was just released. Test flights are planned in June.
That’s like, a handful of months away!
