Other announcements, plus a Crystal Rain review!
July 11th 2008 at 1:05 am
So, for those of new to my blog, I’m usually pretty boring. My blogging theory is that I putter around, pointing out cool things that make me happy and talking about my work and what’s on my mind and so forth.
So some updates, I passed the 10% mark of the novel H:TCP in solid form, […]
LJ user Chang3002, and author Jim Hines review Ragamuffin
July 4th 2008 at 6:42 am
Two more reviews to pimp. The first is Chang3002 who reviewed Ragamuffin (along with fellow Ohio SF writer Paul Melko’s book Singularity’s Ring) on his blog:
Buckell’s pulled together several of my favorite things in the world: aliens, strong female characters, rastafari in space and violence against our alien oppressor’s. Quite an awesome combination. […]
A bunch ‘o reviews
June 24th 2008 at 7:09 am
A number of reviews of my books have popped up:
Mentat Jack reviews Crystal Rain:
Buckell has a unique voice and his Caribbean heritage shines through, in the language and the nautical realism. This was a refreshing and thought provoking read and I’d highly recommend it. I ordered a copy of Ragamuffin hours after finishing Crystal Rain. […]
A Dribble of Ink reviews Ragamuffin
June 16th 2008 at 7:08 am
Aidan Moher takes a look at Ragamuffin for his blog:
Ragamuffin, though shorter than Crystal Rain, sees the scope of Buckell’s storytelling expand immensely. Where the first novel was more of an adventure with Science Fiction elements, Ragamuffin is a full blown Space Opera. Various alien races inhabit the 48 planets, under the rule of the […]

Blogger Chris Hibbert takes a look at Ragamuffin in regards to it being up for the Prometheus Award:
Tobias Buckell’s Ragamuffin is a finalist for the Prometheus award. Buckell describes it as “Caribbean space opera”, and it definitely has a Caribbean feel to it. In this story, humans are one of several interstellar-faring species dominated by […]
Ragamuffin ppb in the wild and a continuation of the picture contest
June 3rd 2008 at 11:08 pm
Joey Shoji is the first to email a pic of Ragamuffin, the paperback edition, in the wild at Stacey’s in San Francisco.
And it’s faced out and next to copies of Crystal Rain. That’ll make an author happy.
Hey, worried you won’t have a chance to win Sly Mongoose and get to read it early? Go ahead […]
Ragamuffin in paperback… at your bookstores!
June 2nd 2008 at 12:07 pm
Hey, Ragamuffin should now be out in paperback, at your very own bookstores, officially starting tomorrow. Unofficially, that means you might start seeing copies of the paperback ‘in the wild’ anywhere, as most bookstores will probably just slap me on the shelf as they got the box.
First person to get me a picture of the […]
King of the Nerds reviews Ragamuffin
May 20th 2008 at 12:55 pm
A new review of Ragamuffin popped up here at the blog King of the Nerds, who penned:
Regardless this wasn’t enough to stop me reading and the last 75 to 100 pages were more than enough to make up for any chaff along the way. In many ways the final scenes reminded a bit of […]
Shaun Duke review of Ragamuffin
May 14th 2008 at 6:36 am
A new, and rather nice, Amazon.com review of Ragamuffin includes this:
Tobias is what I would call expert in making you believe that all is well, and then turning it all upside down on you. He makes sure you trust the words of a character and then rips that trust right out from under you so […]
Tillabooks reviews Ragamuffin
May 7th 2008 at 1:16 pm
Online blogger Tillabooks just read Ragamuffin and reviews it:
When I picked this book up off my local library’s new books shelf, and even when I started reading it, I had no idea that it was a sequel to another book, Crystal Rain, which I reviewed back on March 18 of this year. I guess I […]
