Other announcements, plus a Crystal Rain review!

July 11th 2008 at 1:05 am

So, for those of new to my blog, I’m usually pretty boring. My blogging theory is that I putter around, pointing out cool things that make me happy and talking about my work and what’s on my mind and so forth.
So some updates, I passed the 10% mark of the novel H:TCP in solid form, […]

Crucial Taunt review of Crystal Rain

July 2nd 2008 at 3:15 pm

Another review popped up last night, this very positive review of Crystal Rain on the website Crucial Taunt by John Markley:
From this set-up, creates one of the best adventure stories science fiction has seen in recent years. Buckell takes the reader across the world he has created, from a desperate midair struggle with an […]

Crystal Rain review

June 27th 2008 at 8:17 pm

Sitting at Charlotte airport here waiting for my flight to Dayton to board. Here’s a review of Crystal Rain from Walker of Worlds:
Crystal Rain is a great read - not too long, but with so many ideas and such a well told story I find it difficult to believe the length, I would have expected […]

June 24th 2008 at 7:09 am

A number of reviews of my books have popped up:
Mentat Jack reviews Crystal Rain:
Buckell has a unique voice and his Caribbean heritage shines through, in the language and the nautical realism. This was a refreshing and thought provoking read and I’d highly recommend it. I ordered a copy of Ragamuffin hours after finishing Crystal Rain. […]

May 11th 2008 at 8:10 am

LJ user edroxy reviews Crystal Rain. Snippet:
As someone who’s grown up in the Caribbean, I couldn’t possibly pass on a science fiction novel which took place in a Caribbean-like setting, now could I? That was what initially drew me to the book.
I’d be surprised to find someone who’s never heard about this author considering his […]

Bookstove review of Crystal Rain

January 30th 2008 at 3:44 pm

Lit website Bookstove has a review of Crystal Rain here:
This is an exciting and imaginative debut from author Tobias S. Buckell. The story features characters that are carefully nuanced and thus, wholly believable. The ending, though logical, is truly heartbreaking . The main message that Buckell delivers is that things are not always as they […]

Variety of Words reviews Crystal Rain

November 7th 2007 at 9:33 am

Matt at A Variety of Words reviewed Crystal Rain at his blog:
Buckell has also created some great characters. John deBrun struggles to remember his past, knowing it was completely different than his present. And a mysterious man by the name of Pepper is a butt-kicking, technologically modified warrior, the kind I can really get behind, […]

Grasping for Wind reviews Crystal Rain

October 25th 2007 at 12:41 pm

Blogger Grasping for the Wind reviews Crystal Rain here:
Crystal Rain is a strong debut. Tobias Buckell has taken the lost civilization genre of science fiction and created a wonderful story. The characters are mysterious and compelling, and John deBrun cuts a dashing and heroic figure whose own personal worries give the reader and emotional connection.

Graeme’s Fantasy Review on Crystal Rain

October 8th 2007 at 3:25 pm

Graeme’s Fantasy Review takes a close look at Crystal Rain, and despite reading Ragamuffin first and Crystal Rain later, totally digs on it. Which is cool, because it means they stand alone, which is what I was aiming for.
