Ego alert: various reviews and interviews
August 28th 2008 at 9:12 am
A link dump of things:
Suvudu has a video interview of me and Todd Lockwood chatting about writing and cover art for books (Todd has done all my covers so far).
At Tor Podcasts I’m interviewed by my editor Paul Stevens about the idea behind Sly Mongoose. It was taken during the Nebulas, when I was horribly, […]
Sly Mongoose comes out swinging
August 28th 2008 at 6:55 am
My agent yesterday emailed halfway through the day to congratulate me on the best opening week sales of any of my hardcovers yet. Almost double the first week sales of Ragamuffin and a 12% edge over Crystal Rain’s first week numbers.
This has me thrilled.
Over the counter retail stores (many independent stores don’t report to bookscan) […]

Today Sly Mongoose officially launches. It will be on bookstore shelves and it will be on doorsteps if you pre-ordered it. I’m really excited about this one, as the early buzz has been off the chain and I can’t wait to see what readers think.

I haven’t received a copy yet, but someone forwarded me a link to the Czech version of Crystal Rain, and I was digging on the cover:
Paris Hilton for president
August 6th 2008 at 1:22 pm
So not only is this hilarious, but the moderate in me perked up at the ‘energy plan’ she proposes as being an interesting compromise, wonder who wrote her lines?
Seriously, funny though:

Todd Lockwood in Art Scene International
August 5th 2008 at 12:51 pm
My cover artist, Todd Lockwood, is in the latest issue of Art Scene International (August issue, that is).
Lynn Viehl (S. L. Viehl if you read only SF) emailed me to point out why this is so cool. It’s because the art for Sly Mongoose Crystal Rain is inside the magazine as the Centerfield/Poster for that […]
Shaun Farrell on Sly Mongoose
August 5th 2008 at 7:00 am
Adventures in Sci Fi Publishing’s Shaun Farrell reviews Sly Mongoose:
Sly Mongoose is a strong and vibrant third book from Tobias Buckell. It starts faster than Ragamuffin, and Buckell slows the velocity only on occasion, and never for long. Like Ragamuffin, Mongoose can be read independently from its predecessors, and Buckell infuses the milieu of his […]
Mercury News reviews Sly Mongoose
August 4th 2008 at 9:53 am
Clay Kallum reviews Sly Mongoose:
Tobias S. Buckell has developed a nice little future universe in his two previous books, and “Sly Mongoose” (Tor, $25.95, 352 pages) is a worthy successor. But as with many series writers, he seems to believe that the readers remember all the details of the previous books and can grasp […]
Reviews central
August 1st 2008 at 4:33 pm
I’ve been sitting on a bunch of reviews forwarded to me of my work, due to being out and about I’ve not gotten around to blogging them, so just to make sure I don’t forget any of them, here they are:
Pllogan liked Sly Mongoose.
John Markley, of the blog Vast and Cool and Unsympathetic (great title), […]
Series Business on all three novels at Publishers Weekly
August 1st 2008 at 1:33 pm
Publishers Weekly’s Rose Fox has a new column up on her Genreville blog, called Series Business, and is taking a look at how Crystal Rain, Ragamuffin, and Sly Mongoose work as a series:
I very much enjoyed reading these and would recommend them to anyone who enjoys space opera but wants to get away from some […]
