MacBook Air updated
November 28th 2010 at 3:41 pm
On Saturday you may have noticed the blog went quiet. Emily was nice enough to drive me down to Columbus so that I could return my MacBook Air with the display glitch and get a replacement. After having used the base 11″ Air with 2 gigs RAM and the slower processor for a week, and [...]
Motor Trend smacks down Rush Limbaugh
November 26th 2010 at 3:04 pm
Motor Trend has been really impressed with the Chevy Volt. Enough that they named it the car of the year, causing Rush Limbaugh to shit a brick and direct one of his fact-less moronic rants at them. Not only does Motor Trend proceed to fact check his ass with the snark of a thousand suns [...]
Air on one of Saturn’s moons
November 26th 2010 at 1:12 pm
Okay, we really need to step up solar system exploration: Rhea, one of Saturn’s moon’s, might have a breathable atmosphere. I mean, holy shit. This is huge. As Paul Raven notes, the rare earth hypothesis is really taking it on the chin these days. And that’s a good thing.
Towards a Wider, Deeper Steampunk
November 26th 2010 at 1:01 pm
Racialiscious has a great article up by a steampunk costumer who is Native American, and the choices she has to make in both dressing up steampunk and not tripping up on respectfulness to her heritage while also trying to telegraph what she’s doing to a predominantly white audience due to some of the semiotic concerns [...]
Happy Thanksgiving
November 25th 2010 at 9:41 am
Chocolate pie by Emily Over here in the US it’s Thanksgiving Day, and I’ll be loading the twins up into the minivan and Emily and I will head for Toledo to be with family. The purpose of the day is, for many in the US, lashed to some sketchy quasi-history about Pilgrims and people who [...]
MacBook Air display issues
November 24th 2010 at 2:14 pm
So, all is not entirely well in MacBook Air land. Every 5-10 minutes, my external monitor ‘fuzzes’ slightly, a glitch. I updated the OS which was supposed to take care of it, but it continues on. The software update has taken care of previous screen glitches for people afflicted with that, so it looks like [...]
Meme-prank SF
November 24th 2010 at 1:57 pm
A while back I was talking to a couple friends about how much fun it would be to create a science fiction based version of some of those prank groups you see around. The two press releases that I proposed were: 1) A press release that Google was taking its mobile data centers out to [...]

November 24th 2010 at 11:56 am
Okay, this had me laughing out loud. Emily and I still haven’t had time to see the latest, but by all accounts it was very good. I Am Harry Potter from Daniel Radcliffe
Dropbox tricks
November 24th 2010 at 10:28 am
I really like the online backup service and sharing system Drop Box. For one, it’s simple to use. You install it, and then it disappears mostly. It creates a folder anywhere you please. Anything you put have in that folder is backed up to Drop Box. But here’s where it shines: there’s no software that [...]
Amy Sundberg on priorities
November 24th 2010 at 8:15 am
Amy Sundberg’s blog post about priorities resonates strongly with me: But not as many things are impossible as we think. And once we begin to contemplate the realm of the possible, everything shuffles down to priorities. My priority was to travel in Europe, so I structured my life accordingly. I had a very strict budget, [...]
