Lamina takes a step closer to reality
In my novel Ragamuffin the concept of ‘lamina,’ a layer of data over the real world that can be accessed by people with the right interfaces (googles, contacts, direct neural interface) for added layers of reality that co-exist, interact with, or just lay over reality is demonstrated here at TED.
This uses a projector instead of just personal to the user, but still, same concept and very cool:

Also complicating that is fact that Thalia needs to be home tommorow since she has a cold: cough, runny nose, mild fever. 8 hrs ago
I fell asleep at 7:30pm and woke up at 12:30 due to coughing kid. Awake now. Will be interesting to see when I get tired. 8 hrs ago
Of course, I'm risking cliche. But these are the travails of being an entertainer: in realism vs keep story moving, moving wins 8 hrs ago
Mmm. The extended rise to leader of army plot sequence in this novella will be cut in favor of Duel To Death! Other way is long/boring. :) 8 hrs ago

I like the word cloud, but I want it piped directly into my head in audio form rather than displayed visually — unless the display is only something I can see. That would be nearer to how lamina works, anyhow.

I’m a little concerned about anything that approaches neural connection. Lamnia may not be that connection, but as long as there exists a Blue Screen Of Death I will not be an early adapter.

I remember reading a few years ago about goggles/eyeglasses that a mechanic could wear that would display needed info from a repair manual directly in front of his/her eye so that they would be able to work and look up needed info at the same time. This is like one small aspect of sixth sense. It’s really amazing.

I’ve always wanted to know the word for this. Lamina. *rolls on tongue.* Melikes.

I just have to say that lamina reminds me so much of synesthesia that I can’t help but love the idea.

Everyone just needs to avoid getting nural jacks from Dell and all will be well. PERC 26-NJ have battery problems, or so I’ve heard.

Very cool! Great example of the relationship between Sci-Fi and reality, or to put it another way, a great example of the power of imagination!
