The dearth to come

June 30th 2008 at 6:58 am

I have to warn you all, that as much as I enjoy writing daily posts, and ferreting out interesting links and things, that the deadlines and amount of work I have ahead of me will probably have an effect on the daily blurts until mid-August. I may find posting something a nice way to stop and relax, but I suspect that the last thing I’ll want to be is in front of my computer when I’m taking breaks.

Just saying.

I may be more likely to use txt messages (SMS) to update my twitter account via my iPhone than make classic blog posts. Just saying. I have a very strict amount of work that needs to come first, there won’t be much dallying.

Over the last two weeks I’ve watched maybe a couple hours of TV, which has kept me rather productive. I’m probably setting the privilege of watching TV and much gaming aside until Halo: The Cole Protocol is finished. Self preservation, and all that. As I explain to so many people, getting rid of TV (which most Americans watch 20 plus hours of a week) is the first thing you can do toward getting the edge on whatever it is you’re trying to achieve. I have yet to meet anyone who, if they log the amount they watch, actually watches what they think they watch (everyone who says ‘oh, I only watch a couple hours’ usually comes back to me with a log that shows at least 10 hours. Yes, I have made people who’ve come to me for writing advice log their TV time to demonstrate how they can find time to write, finding time is the number one ‘issue’ people have with trying to be a writer LOL.).

I will however, still watch occasional movies during downtime.

And of course, if I find I’m blowing away the novel with exceptional speed, I reserve the right to completely contradict myself!

    A very busy Tobias indeed.

Hey, I got to use your name to impress my nephew. He knew all about the new book coming out for Halo, and then I got to say, “I know the guy they tagged to write it.” I got to be Very Cool Uncle(tm) for a few moments.

The TV isn’t so much a problem anymore. It’s the blogging and reading other’s blogs that gets me now (you know, other than having two jobs and the freelance design work).

I agree on the TV thing. Since we moved we haven’t had a TV and I think it’s freed up a lot of time for everything else. We still watch DVD’s on the laptop, but generally speaking we spend far less time doing that kind of stuff.
