34 tips for your younger self
Lifehack.org has a list that I keep re-reading. I think I agree with most of these. It’s called 34 tips for your younger self, but I think a lot of still applies to your current self:
2. Follow your passion, even if it does not pay very well. If you are good at what you do and love your career choice – the money will eventually follow.
3. Now is the time to establish good habits for life in every area; they might take a lot of hard work to form, but it’s worth the effort and missed television.
4. Listen more, listen better, pay attention and remember! Many people have been there and done that and can save you some headaches—but only if you listen.
5. There are some narcissistic whackjobs and bitter people in the world who will make your life a misery and who are so firmly embedded in their own version of reality that they’ll never change. Should you have the misfortune to encounter such a person, in whatever capacity, don’t hang around any longer than you absolutely need to.

Also complicating that is fact that Thalia needs to be home tommorow since she has a cold: cough, runny nose, mild fever. 3 mins ago
I fell asleep at 7:30pm and woke up at 12:30 due to coughing kid. Awake now. Will be interesting to see when I get tired. 4 mins ago
Of course, I'm risking cliche. But these are the travails of being an entertainer: in realism vs keep story moving, moving wins 6 mins ago
Mmm. The extended rise to leader of army plot sequence in this novella will be cut in favor of Duel To Death! Other way is long/boring. :) 8 mins ago
Thalia's home today sick. Poor kid. Poor Toby's deadline LOL. 11 hrs ago

Lovely.
Thanks for the reminders, so perfectly timed!

I agree with the bit on “following your passion.” Even if you can only do it from time to time. I’ve had such a good time doing some movie extra work, despite the fact that I’m sometimes standing for three hours at a time and the food they feed the extras isn’t so hot. Still, neat to be a part of a movie!

I keep trying on the #2 and avoiding being #5.
With a former employee I tried to instill #3 and let him know that more than his resume, his reputation would be what determined his job prospects (giving him real world examples from his hiring process). Didn’t make an impression. He’s no longer with us.

#2 is the one I’ve really been working on. It took me a while to realize just how much I enjoyed reading & reviewing books as opposed to doing the kinds of writing I used to (I was a freelancer for a handful of years). I might not make a whole lot of money with the stuff I do for my website, but just looking at the photo I posted this morning of my review book stack makes me happy!
#5 is something I had to learn a while ago. It’s nice to be able to say, yeah, that person is this toxic because he had a bad childhood and I can sympathize with that. But at some point you have to say, ‘he isn’t going to change, and I don’t want to be in the damage radius any more.’ Once I learned that, my life got a whole lot better.
Best of luck with the possible awards. I still can’t wait for ‘Ragamuffin’s’ sequel!

Yeah, I’ve made a strong move to eliminate #5 people from my surroundings LOL.
Heather, thanks!

Dammit Tobias, you are your younger self. Razzum frazzum kids today!
(Pardon the post-birthday depression…)
