Nebulations
April 28th 2008 at 6:09 pm
Well, Michael Chabon won, but it’s always just plain nifty to be nominated. Really!
I was horribly sick for most of the ceremony, and tired enough that I missed a great deal of it by being unable to focus and because I was struggling with little bouts of micro-sleep. But I had perked afterwards enough that […]
Austin arrival
April 26th 2008 at 2:33 am
I’m so flippping exhausted. After a slight delay we got out of Columbus for Dallas. I’ve been hacking up a lung (a combination of liquid in the lungs or somewhere rattling when I breathe in and acid reflux) all day long, but at the airport and on the plane it got hellish. I sucked on […]
Flying to Austin
April 25th 2008 at 4:55 pm
I’m getting ready to fly to Austin, TX for the Nebula Awards, where Ragamuffin is a finalist.
We got to Columbus airport early. Almost two hours early, to make sure that unlike last time we wouldn’t miss our flight.
I’ve been fighting a flu since Wednesday or Thursday.
I’m also bored.

A Green Thumb in Greek
April 24th 2008 at 12:36 pm
In the mail yesterday was the Greek magazine/comic Ennea, or ‘9.’ It contains my short story A Green Thumb, first published in Analog a while back.
I guess this stays on the ego shelf in my office and doesn’t go out on the coffee table (laughs).
It is the SF/F and comics supplement of the largest newspaper […]
I can haz uniform back?
April 23rd 2008 at 2:24 pm
After over two weeks at the cleaners, maybe more, my leather jacket finally came back! Woo hoo. Now I can look like me again at conventions… except… it’s Austin, it’ll be hot.
There better be damn good air conditioning. The jacket’s all new and shiny again. My second skin, partner in crime.
Couple years ago I was […]
Westerfeld on a Zeppellin

Scott takes pictures and blogs up what it was like to take a ride in a Zeppelin.
Can I just say how jealous I am right now?
Dichotomous Crystal Rain reviews
April 22nd 2008 at 8:01 am
This reader, not so much a fan.
Tobias Buckell’s Crystal Rain is a shining example of why the Golden Age of Science Fiction is over…
The writing is readable, but not great. After all, real men do not indulge in developing characters, or even in having emotions. Every character is entirely wooden, but of course our heroes […]
Penguicon 2008 con report
April 21st 2008 at 3:35 pm
Penguicon is a Detroit area Linux/Open Source/Science Fiction convention (naturally) which is a lot of fun. They invited me up the past couple years, this year I didn’t get an invite so that meant, being disorganized as I am, I didn’t realize the con was happening until a week before.
Jim Hall, the host of Cult […]
Proof that the end of civilization as we know it is upon us

Individually wrapped hotdogs and hot dog buns.
Because, yanno, preparing a hot dog is tough, right?
