Journal Entry
A day of Crystal Rain goodness
First of all, if you sign up for Tor.com’s newsletter, as I mentioned in this blog entry, you get a free electronic copy of Crystal Rain.
Free as in beer.
You’ll also be entered into a chance to win a free Asus EEE mobile PC.
Secondly, if you own an Amazon Kindle, you can download Crystal Rain to it for free for it as well.
Thirdly, Rambles.net has posted a review of Crystal Rain:
Buckell has put together an absorbing adventure story with the added richness of an economically rendered culture that is outside the usual cast of science fiction. Backstory and history are equally subtly done and in no way impede the novel’s flow. The real joy, aside from the story itself, however, is the dialogue with its strong Afro-Caribbean flavor, which Buckell has rendered clearly and faithfully without making it incomprehensible.
In the comments someone asked why the other book, Ragamuffin, wasn’t available as a Kindle book yet. I imagine it’s because Tor went through the trouble of converting it to various e-formats for this Tor.com giveaway, so I imagine it wasn’t too much more trouble to make it Kindle-ready and post it up there right now.
And lastly, Jim Hines, buddy of mine and awesome writer-of-goblins that both Emily and I enjoy (there’s a humor trifecta in my house: Terry Pratchett, A. Lee Martinez, and Jim Hines), reviews Crystal Rain, which is awful nice of him.

Also complicating that is fact that Thalia needs to be home tommorow since she has a cold: cough, runny nose, mild fever. 8 hrs ago
I fell asleep at 7:30pm and woke up at 12:30 due to coughing kid. Awake now. Will be interesting to see when I get tired. 8 hrs ago
Of course, I'm risking cliche. But these are the travails of being an entertainer: in realism vs keep story moving, moving wins 8 hrs ago
Mmm. The extended rise to leader of army plot sequence in this novella will be cut in favor of Duel To Death! Other way is long/boring. :) 8 hrs ago

Okay, that is awesome.
Even though I own the paperback, I grabbed the Kindle copy too. Thank you.

If anyone is interested in other Kindle-compatible free ebooks, try Feedbooks, which is a very well-run site. I’ve got my YA fantasy MORTAL GHOST listed there, and the people who run it know what they’re doing – and answer any questions quickly and efficiently!
