SFWA etc…

November 30th 2007 at 5:45 pm

A new brouhaha has exploded with the Science Fiction Writers of America. I’ll use snippets.
Charles Stross:
SFWA, the Science Fiction Writers of America, an organisation of which I am a member (on account of my having just a slight interest in writing and selling SF in that country) managed to get into a huge public relations […]

Stochastic Global Awareness

November 30th 2007 at 2:20 pm

I just love this phrase “Stochastic Global Awareness” that Chad Orzel used to refer to the odd way he finds news via various back channel personal and random blogs.
I don’t follow a lot of mainstream news sources any more, because they mostly just piss me off, so I end up getting most of my news […]

Caribbean Earthquake!

November 29th 2007 at 5:07 pm

Barbados just got hit with a 7.3 on the Richter scale earthquake. Google new has lots of links.
Global Voices has a good round up.
When I was younger we had these Caribbean textbooks. I remember one showing Trini-looking various folk standing around a giant crack in the earth ripping open to reveal boiling magma lying in […]

Light blogging

November 28th 2007 at 2:58 pm

I apologize for the light blogging, I’m a bit behind on stuff and am plugging through my to do list (using the quite awesome OmniFocus, btw).
Today I overslept again. It was all I could to get up and I wondered what the hell was wrong, I’ve been groggy and lethargic for a week now. I’ve […]

Book Loons puts Ragamuffin at one of best SF books of the year

November 28th 2007 at 2:50 pm

The book review website Book Loons has a ‘best of’ summary for books of the year. Ragamuffin gets a nod.
That’s a nice pick me up!

My View reviews Crystal Rain

November 26th 2007 at 3:14 pm

A review of Crystal Rain is here:
I prefer Space Opera SF to any of the myriad of other sub-generes in the field. But you [know] what? Crystal Rain is Space Opera.
When I first became attracted to Space Opera, I read the works of Alan Dean Foster and loved his ability to create unique and wonderful […]

Grasping for Wind reviews Ragamuffin

November 26th 2007 at 3:05 pm

John Ottinger at Grasping for Wind reviewed Ragamuffin here:
Of particular interest in Ragamuffin was one particular fight scene. Natasha and her companions are forced to traverse the length of a space station in weightlessness while being shot at. The entire scene takes a very long time and is the most fun fight scene I have […]

Wastelands review

November 26th 2007 at 3:01 pm

A short story of mine is in John Joseph Adam’s Wastelands anthology. The first review, by Publishers Weekly, is up at JJA’s blog, and it’s a good one (and even mentions my own contribution, yay).

Futures From Nature

November 20th 2007 at 2:35 pm

A couple years ago I was quite proud that my short story ‘Toy Planes’ got into Nature Magazine. It netted me my first ‘Year’s Best’ anthology appearance as well.
Now in another cool reprint, I just found out that this story is one of the 100 in the Futures From Nature collection that brings all these […]

Crystal Rain in German

November 20th 2007 at 2:23 pm

I got back from lunch today and found a package from my agent today.
On ripping it open I found author copies of the Bastei Lubbe edition of Crystal Rain (Kristall Regen), with a sticker on the copies that says “Spitzen Titel!” According to Babelfish that means “Point Title” which I’m sure is just slightly off. […]
