New Clarkesworld Magazine issue is up
October 31st 2007 at 11:18 pm
The latest issue of Clarkesworld is up. It features a story by Ken Scholes and Rebecca Ore, an article about about genre perceptions by Jeff VanderMeer, and an interview I did with Sean Williams:
TB: In your SF novels you explore the changing nature of humanity, through evolution and technology. Can you talk a bit about […]
Space Diving

If you’ve heard me read the first chapter of Sly Mongoose, you might enjoy this.
AS CAPTAIN Joe Kittinger of the US air force stood on the edge of the hatch, 31 kilometres above the Earth, he must have wondered if he was about to make a fatal mistake. On the way up, the gloved hand […]

I just installed the latest Mac OS, and I’m rather impressed. The backup software, Time Machine, has to be the easiest I’ve used. I have my spare hard drive set up to keep hourly time stamps versions of changes made to my hard drive that I can roll back like the history of wiki page.
Spaces […]
Vote on my next XBox 360 game
October 30th 2007 at 3:31 pm
I’m torn. I have a gift certificate that arrived via Amazon.com for all the links you guys have clicked via my website. It pays for most of a new XBox 360 game via Amazon, and I’m divided between 4 different games, so I’m actually going to let you all vote in the comments since your […]
Coming up soon
October 30th 2007 at 3:27 pm
I will be in Cincinnati to participate in Books by The Banks, a day long book festival that will be taking place at the same time as World Fantasy Convention (hence my not being there). I’m looking forward to meeting Ohio readers and the other 85 regional authors participating. This will happen November 3rd, so […]
Monday drive
October 29th 2007 at 5:02 pm
Drove up to Cleveland to look at a couple of cars. With some extra driving to bookstores and cons coming up, I realized that my zeal for road trips had essentially died. Was it the long hours? Was I getting old? Worn out?
No. It’s that I really despise the old Ford Wagon I drive. It’s […]
Seattle Times Review of Ragamuffin
October 26th 2007 at 4:18 pm
Nisi Shawl writes for the Seattle Times:
“Ragamuffin,” by Tobias Buckell (Tor, 320 pp., $24.95). Buckell represents an important force behind the genre’s change. One of a growing number of nonwhite authors writing fantastic fiction, Buckell hasn’t let his fondness for rocket ships, wormholes and galactic empires keep him from populating his fast-paced, pulp-esque books with […]
Crystal Rain and Ragamuffin get wikipedia-d
October 25th 2007 at 5:41 pm
Crystal Rain and Ragamuffin popped up with their own wikipedia webpages a couple days ago (thanks to my automagic web crawlers for spotting them). They’re pretty basic right now, and I don’t have time to fill them out much further, but if you’re at all interested, anything on this site that I have in relation […]
Grasping for Wind reviews Crystal Rain
October 25th 2007 at 12:41 pm
Blogger Grasping for the Wind reviews Crystal Rain here:
Crystal Rain is a strong debut. Tobias Buckell has taken the lost civilization genre of science fiction and created a wonderful story. The characters are mysterious and compelling, and John deBrun cuts a dashing and heroic figure whose own personal worries give the reader and emotional connection.
Time to write novels, naming characters, and other commenter’s questions
October 23rd 2007 at 7:30 am
Jeremy writes:
“How do your name your characters? Where do you get your ideas? How long does it take to write a book? Did you paint the cover? Do you like reading your own books?”
I’d be interested in hearing the answers to these questions, or at least pointed to where I can find them if you’ve […]
