Cat vs music
July 30th 2007 at 2:44 pm
My Maine Coon doesn’t like Metallica. He was sitting in the editing chair when ‘Fuel’ launched up randomly on the playlist and he sat up, blinking, and just made the most annoyed face.
What music does your pet not like?

My dogs (both 80-lbs, one Visla which is a ridgeback looking hunting dog and one dalmatian) sing (read: howl) with my son when he is practicing his saxophone. I am not sure if that denotes like or dislike.

My wife and I were reminiscing about this just a couple days ago. My late black Lab, Jack, always pitched a fit when Deep Space Nine came on. I don’t know if it was the trumpets, or the particular combination of horns and strings, but he would cry from the first note of the theme. If I didn’t mute the opening credits, he’d howl so enthusiastically he’d gag, which then set off the coughing. It was somewhere between pitiful and hilarious.

Our cats hate Celtic fiddle music. One even puffs up and does the full Halloween cat thing when she hears it.
A few years back on the nights we worked out at the Y we used to watch Law & Order re-runs on A & E while we ate dinner, and we always fed the cats at the same time so they wouldn’t bother us while we ate. Now whenever they hear the Law & Order theme music they rush to their food bowls and dance there waiting to be fed.

As you know, life here is about catering to the Jimi Kitty. We are simply his staff.

Well, of course. Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
