Gabe Chouinard destroys several online communities on his way out of the field
July 2nd 2007 at 5:44 pm
They say don’t burn your bridges. It’s also a good idea not to reach around and burn everyone else’s bridges nearby in a fit on your way out as well.
For context, Gabe is someone who has excitedly stormed the gates of SF literature several times, each time running off to some new project, but always finding a new revolution to get excited about. Lately several of his projects and associations have fallen through, and in this interconnected world, people started issuing warnings and comparing notes.

Reminds me of a “Thanks for the Memos” spot on “Whaddaya Know.” A lawyer leaving his law firm, basically trashes the system that makes “bright and brilliant young lawyers into mindless, souless partners,” and how, “may the fires from the bridges I’ve burnt here be seen far and wide.”
While that memo was funny and poignient, these actions aren’t. Comic heroes can get away with resurection every few years and the other characters develop a sense of amnesia about what a tool the hero was before. Life doesn’t work that way, though.

I’ve never heard of this guy. And from the links I followed I don’t think I missed anything.
