Harriet Klausner backlash
June 29th 2007 at 9:53 am
Someone pointed out to me that readers/buyers of Ragamuffin are dissing Harriet Klausner’s review of Ragamuffin thats up on the Amazon page for Ragamuffin, and their anti-Harriet comments are cracking me up. Go team. Here, check it out:
Barbara Delaney
Harriet Klausner’s review says about Nash “..inside her she carries a weapon of mass destruction..” Not quite, Nash is actually a heavily modified living weapon of war. HK neglects to tell prospective readers about the Afro-Caribbean dialogue in this novel, the fact that it contains characters from the author’s previous novel, “Crystal Rain” and so many other important elements that I would urge prospective readers to look elsewhere for a review of this book.

Harriet practically never gives anything but 5 stars. Her ratings are not differentiated, therefore pretty useless.

The incoherence of this review is astounding.

You dare to interject fact into this world of oblivious fantasy?!
Okay.

I think we’re reaching the point where readers all know that a Harriet review is pretty much static and are starting to get annoyed by them.

I got Klausner-blasting comments on her Goblin Hero review, too.
It blows my mind that the system has evolved to the point where a reviewer could have hate-groupies…

You don’t know the half of it…

I’ve only looked at reviews on certain products and am usually astounded by the type of review that basically says, “ths product is crap because it doesn’t work with the setup I have and the version of equipment I have and I was too stupid to read the product description to find that incompatability out before I ordered. So don’t order this at all.” And then a 1 star.
So I tend not to read them anymore.

I never cared one way or another about “her” reviews, but ever since I read the comments and checked out the ariticles about her the SFSignal post that John linked to, I’ve thumbed down any of her reviews that I’ve read - I feel it’s my duty.
You cant seriously be reading upwards of 30 books a week can you?

I got a review by her that hasn’t appeared on Amazon yet, but it’s here at B&N:

Perhaps the most amusing thing to me is that the title is wrong. It makes me wonder if she’s using speech recognition software.
I tend to think she’s the reviewer for people who read a whole lot of books very, very quickly.

Tony, don’t do that! She provides a nice balance for the folks Steve mentioned in comment #3!

Tony, oops, please ignore my comment at #6: I don’t do online reviews, so I forgot that you can rate comments. I thought you meant you would post a bad review to balance hers. My bad.

Yeah…the whole Harriet thing cracks me up. There is a decent amount of disgust / hate / humor on the Amazon boards, but by now most of them have pretty well given up on her (or they did a couple years back when I last checked)

Ever since I saw Harriet complete confuse the story of Star Wars: Outbound Flight, I’ve stopped paying attention to her. I went back to the review a few weeks later, thinking it was my duty to correct her since she obviously hadn’t really read the book, but the review had already been changed. Hmmm. . . . .

Speech recognition software! Ai chihuahua!
If you go to her website, it’s impossible to square “that” Harriet with the apparently current Harriet.
