Journal Entry
Great weekend, but tiring
May 13th 2007 at 4:48 pm
I enjoyed the mass signing held on Friday, signed a few copies of Crystal Rain. I sat next to Jim Kessel and Jim Kelly (who later won his first Nebula). And the crowd was small enough I ended up having a chance to meet Ron Moore, who seemed pretty cool.
Major props to my editor for getting copies of Crystal Rain to the event. The paperback comes out in a couple weeks, so most places have sent back the hardcover, but don’t have the paperback on hand just yet. So the store had issues getting copies, and Paul and Dot Lin made sure to get a bunch of copies down there.
Went out with a massive crowd to a bar after that on the river, it made a nice cap to the night.
Saturday I brunched with my editor, then spoke on the panel about online presences. Jim Kelly moderated, Dora Goss, Jeff Ford and I batted around our different approaches to online presences. After that I should have attended the SFWA business meeting, but instead I chose to go see singing muppets get it on on Broadway (the show Avenue Q, my second time, I surprised Emily with tickets).
Emily and I took in the Nebula reception (I paid friggin’ $6 for a bottle of water) then left to go to Juniors for cheesecake with my agent, Joshua Bilmes. We got back late, expecting to have missed most of the ceremony and see the actual Nebula wins, but got there just in time to see Ron Moore look patient and friendly as Jim Gunn decried nasty TV shows for dragging the genre down. We waited for a bit more (I got to see Jim Kelly win his Nebula, which was neat), (I think that was almost well into 10:30 that night), then since it was getting very late, decided to go back and turn in because I wasn’t feeling good and Emily was tired.
After a nice nap I came back down and the ceremony was just wrapping up at midnight or so. I stayed up until 4am with various friends in the bar and then SFWA suite.
Today we wandered around Central Park, me occasionally stop to nap on benches as I flagged, and even once taking a cab 10 blocks because I wasn’t going to make it. But after weeks of not being up and about, I’m pretty happy with all the walking I did.
I’m drinking a single malt in La Guardia airport on a comfy couch and waiting for a 7:30 flight home, and I have a feeling I’m going to sleep the whole way there.

Sounds like it was a fun time, you know, for the bits you were conscious for.
I think I need to get Tor to publish my book (once I finish it) in the worst way, ’cause that Dot Lin sounds like the best.

There’s a nice photo of you at your signing table in one of the collections linked from Locus blinks.
