Economist comes out against DRM
April 30th 2007 at 4:37 pm
As Cory Doctorow points out, the Economist came out against DRM in a big way recently, slamming entertainment industries for penalizing consumers.
After likewise shooting itself in the foot for ages, the record industry is now falling over itself to abandon DRM (digital rights management) on CDs. A number of online music stores such as eMusic, […]
Klausner reviews Ragamuffin
April 30th 2007 at 2:59 am
As I said in December of 2005, “Harriet Klausner is one of the most prolific, and enthusiastic reviewers out there (see this Wired story about her), and she’s usually very focused on the positive.”
If Klausner reviews your book, she is usually excited about it, she doesn’t do negative reviews.
Guaranteed positive review aside, her review of […]

The DragonPage is running a contest with me to give away 3 personalized copies of Crystal Rain via their website.
It’s the small things
April 28th 2007 at 1:31 am
So I worked my ass off all afternoon Friday on a little project and after I turned it in several people above me in the food chain of this project emailed me to say how cool and awesome it was.
My one year freelance-versary is coming up, but seeing those emails gave me a bit of […]
Skybreaker
April 26th 2007 at 3:59 pm
I just wrapped up reading Kenneth Oppel’s Skybreaker last night after having trouble falling asleep. It was quite a treat.
Obviously anything with airships gets my attention, but this was a lovingly done YA steampunk adventure that I found engaging and fun to read.
I picked it up because I’d been talking about a plot device […]
Kenya’s first in house videogame?
April 26th 2007 at 4:33 am
Check out this Kenyan produced video game, the ‘Adventures of Nyangi.’
Gwimgrafx Studios Limited is a video game development company located in Nairobi, Kenya. We are likely the first or one of the first video game development companies in Africa. The main goal of the company is to bring fresh game play ideas into the video […]
Locus Award Finalist for Crystal Rain
April 25th 2007 at 1:18 pm
Crystal Rain is a finalist for the Locus Award for Best First Novel. I found that out while at Penguicon, and it certainly put a nice spring in my step all that weekend.
Thank you for all your emails and congrats.
There are some incredibly strong contenders, but I imagine Naomi Novik’s awesome rollout of her Temeraire […]
Cool NASA return-to-moon trailer
April 25th 2007 at 12:51 pm
I like the idea of NASA-released cool trailers like this.
What would be even slicker is if they snagged some of their budget and aired this stuff on prime time. I imagine there are laws, but if politicians can figure out how to clutter my viewing time I don’t see why NASA shouldn’t.
Nonetheless, cool video. Check […]
Odd screed at Locus about Virginia Tech shootings and SF/F
April 25th 2007 at 6:39 am
While I’m worried about how non-writers and outsiders may view beginning SF/F writers and students due to the V. Tech shootings, this strange and almost incoherent letter to Locus Magazine left me scratching my head.
It also left me completely happy I no longer work in academia.
Greg Bear’s Eon as a trailer
April 25th 2007 at 12:04 am
Wow, check this out!
Eon is one of my all time favorite novels. The CG Society sponsored a competition for a trailer for the novel, and I was blown away to see the winning trailer. I want to see that movie.
