WOTmania Interview with me
November 28th 2006 at 4:48 pm
The Wheel of Time Mania site contacted me a while back with some questions for an interview. You can find it here. One of the more interesting questions:
Which of your characters is the most like you and why?
Now there’s an interesting question I don’t think I’ve been asked. My characters have adventures the likes of which I don’t think I’ve ever really seen. I think Jerome, though, the young kid in Crystal Rain who’s life gets swept away by the invasion that comes through his town is the closest. He isn’t a great hero, or adventurer, just someone whose life is getting turned upside down by external events and trying to keep his head down.

Hmmm.
In my writing group I can peg every single one of the authors as their MCs. I hope I am not that obvious in my writing.
Generally I feel that way about many of the published authors I read (though what would I know about them personally to say otherwise?). I don’t think I would have seen you in any of yours either, but Jerome seems as likely a choice as I would make.

It’s one of those things I try to avoid, Mary Sue-ing my characters. Jerome is close, I drew on some of my own kid-in-war memories, but he has a whole different set of reactions and thoughts than me, so it’s a bit of a stretch at that, but interesting question nonetheless.
