Comments work fully on TB.com again

November 30th 2006 at 8:31 pm

Almost a year ago Jenn Reese (she of the Jade Tiger, a martial arts romance) pointed out to me that she was unable to comment here on the blog. I’m not sure why it was, but it was still a problem as of Worldcon for her and a couple others who emailed me. I upgraded […]

Printer

November 30th 2006 at 2:00 pm

Just got my printer hooked up again. I’d been having DSL failures last month, so a few weeks ago I changed the house over to cable internet. No down-time in my ability to get online so far. But I had to move the wireless station away from the printer where it had served up print […]

Calling for a good cause?

November 29th 2006 at 10:01 pm

Today the phone rang. On the other side was a rep for the policeman’s fund. They introduced themselves to me in such a manner as to let me think they were a police or EMF type person, although I know these callers aren’t.
Then they proceeded to try and get me to agree to a minimum […]

WOTmania Interview with me

November 28th 2006 at 4:48 pm

The Wheel of Time Mania site contacted me a while back with some questions for an interview. You can find it here. One of the more interesting questions:
Which of your characters is the most like you and why?
Now there’s an interesting question I don’t think I’ve been asked. My characters have adventures the likes of […]

Any of you seeing similar torrents?
Just today Akismet caught 94 pieces of comment spam for this blog. How’s that for slick?

Ellen Datlow has a series of photos of the New York SFWA-sponsored Authors and Editors Reception up on Flickr.
Geoff Landis and me. I was just in the middle of telling Geoff that I started Sly Mongoose, the Caribbean hard sf novel with a primary setting that is based in large part on the Venus speech […]

Apocolypto and me…

November 28th 2006 at 9:58 am

So how do you think the release of Apocolypto will affect interest in Caribbean writers and their works? Yes, I know that Mayan was Yucatan peninsula (I’ve actually had heated discussion about how they “all disappeared” and I had to counter that “no, only the culture that supported the cities collapsed, the people were and […]

Mark Terry review

November 27th 2006 at 11:15 pm

I really enjoy reading impressions of Crystal Rain by non-SF readers. Mark Terry is the brother of a former colleague at the University I worked at, and is a writer of action novels and freelancer (you’ve probably seen him in the comments, it’s a small world :-).
He recently blogged a whole review of Crystal […]

Crystal Rain paperback

November 27th 2006 at 10:21 pm

Amazon has a listing for the Crystal Rain paperback edition ($7.99 right now, if you pre-order and the price goes down Amazon will drop the price it charges on ship) which will come out in May.
This is cool because Ragamuffin comes out in June, so they’ll be two very busy months, I imagine.
I was lucky […]

Me, fan fic?

November 27th 2006 at 10:05 pm

A question from the ‘ask Toby a question‘ thread:
If you were writing fanfic in someone else’s universe, whose would you pick? Why?
Posted by Cat Rambo on: October 13th, 2006 at 1:50 pm e
Mmmm. The idea of writing in someone else’s universe never really crossed my mind when I started writing. A lot of my writing […]
