Heading Home

August 29th 2006 at 9:12 am

I’m sitting at John Wayne INT here in Orange County waiting to board. I spent yesterday sleeping all day in the hotel room while fighting off a cold of some sort.

Since I have no memory I have fun exercise. If you are interested, write one way you ran into or hung out with me that is completely made up, and another that is actualy true. I’ll use these to help put together my ‘maybe true con report.’

I’m sorry I never wound up seeing you at Worldcon!

Hope you had a good time and didn’t get too sick.

I managed to not get sick at Worldcon this year (Yeah!). Instead, the poison ivy I acquired before Worldcon got much, much worse…

    You’re home–almost!! EEEEEEEE!

We drove out to Barstow together, late Friday night, in a ‘67 Ford Fairlane that you said you got from someone who owed you a favor. You made me do all the driving — something about “needing your hands free.” I don’t think that blonde woman was at all happy to see you, but I didn’t hear what you said, or see what you gave her. And I’m pretty sure her brother was still alive when we left.

Other than that, y’know, it was a Worldcon — same old stuff.

I nodded at you while you were coming up the escalator and I was going down, but I was never able to stop and say hello at any other time, or remind you that we met at WFC in Madison last year in the Tor Suite where we were introduced by Jim Frenkel. So it’s likely you had no damn idea who I was.

We walked from the con over to Disneyland, approached ticket booth, and asked if we could get some kind of discount admission good only for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. They said the ride closed in 1998. We shrugged and rode the parking lot tram instead, deciding it was almost at fun if you hung out the car with your head near the asphalt.

Also, we shot the shit in the bar for a time.

Great to get to sit down with you for the flight in, TB! The highlight, of course, was getting to go into the cockpit and talk to the pilot and co-pilot, and those hats they gave us were pretty nifty, too. I wore mine the whole convention, but TSA got a bit huffy at LAX on the way back, thinking I was trying to pretend I was part of the crew. Took me four hours to convince them I wasn’t some terrorist…
