Journal Entry
At Alpha
July 20th 2006 at 1:47 pm
I’m at the Alpha Workshop for Younger Writers where I’ll be talking to younger writers about writing, although I told them I would be a bit of a ghost around here until Monday.
Was up working on Ragamuffin until late the night before yesterday, then when I got up I packed and we hauled off for Alpha. I wrote for about half the ride out, then took over driving for a bit as Emily was a bit woozy from getting up super early and putting house stuff in order.
Then I liveblogged an Apple earnings call for bloggingstocks.com at a rest stop using my handy dandy pda/phone, then hopped back in a car to arrive in Greensburg where the workshop is held. Met all the students, and Theodora Goss was there, then I headed back down with Dave Kirtley and we caught up a bit.
After that I grabbed a snack and headed into my room and wrote until I literally passed out on the desk (there’s a line on my forehead). I woke up a bit late, showered, and shaved the beard off (was getting too itchy). Put in 4 solid rewriting hours since, this being my first break.
Somewhere around the half way mark. Will I make Monday? Good grief I hope so. I’m in the middle a huge hump of original words I’m laying down to draw things out and make them make things fit in better. They’re good, but they’re taking up too much time.
But they’re so cool. This will take the draft up a whole notch. I’d love to share, but I’m taking off again to get as much done before dinner as possible.

All this hard work will pay off in the form of one badass book.

Okay, but with being Rogue Agent for Clarion, and now at Alpha with all the blossoming writers, do they recharge the batteries and psych you up, or do you feel like you’ve been lecturing for six hours, giving all your energy to the audience?
