225

February 28th 2006 at 9:23 am

I’m training for summer early. I usually let winter kick my butt and I stop working out in late November and that goes on until late April/early May, when I start to get the warm weather jones and get in shape for the summer and continue on through.

I’m not doing much in the way of cardio, so while I’m feeling better and gaining strength, the waist has remained the same. I need to step that up a bit soon. But for six or seven weeks I’ve been in to weightlift 2-3 times a week with a lifting partner. Last night I was particularly chuffed to finish up my benchpress with 225 pounds on the bar for 6 reps (spotter help on #6), and am back to doing pullups on a bar for the first time since I started up again.

The 225 pounds on the press is exciting because it’s two of those intimidating 45 pound weights on either side of the bar (which weighs 45 pounds as well), which is why I felt compelled to take a picture and blog it.

Using the one rep max calculator, it puts me as able to benchpress upwards of 253 pounds.

The reason I find this interesting is that 230 was my one rep max in college and that I’m actually gaining on my punk 21 year old ass 6 years later (though he fit into much smaller waisted pants from playing soccer every year).

I could so totally kick my own ass if I had a time machine.

Anyway, this is more for my own benefit and documentation than anything else, I like those milestones and pieces of accomplishment that come in other non-writing areas as well.

Ha! Y’know, I often console myself with the same thought. I played soccer for eleven seasons, until the end of high school, and while that smaller version of me could certainly fit into tighter pants and run faster, he’d have to, since I could pick him up and heave him over my head at least a dozen times. :)

Way cool on 225!! I’m closing in on 135 pretty quickly (which, for a gurl, is a similarly way-nifty milestone.) I’m also finding that, even though it’s harder to lose the fat as I get older, it seems a lot easier to build strength and muscle.

    Scott :-) Heh.

Diana, thanks! Good luck on the 135, that’s awesome!

Damn, Toby. Another reason to be jealous of you!
