Journal Entry
Best Week Evar!
Sunday my grandfather died (service was on Wednesday). Yesterday was a bit stressful for various reasons. Today I learned my contract will not be renewed at work, July will be my last paycheck.
*sigh*
10 years involved in Bluffton’s academic atmosphere will be over. That’s the longest I’ve ever participated or been in any one place in my life.
I’ll be starting job searching soon, looking for copy writing and writing related jobs, or even management of any sort. I’ll probably have to look in the Columbus area for that sort of thing, I doubt I’ll find a job in Bluffton.
I liked the house, the environment, and the people here. The timing is awkward, as I’d do best to search for jobs during the same time as I need to finish a second book and promote the first, still be responsible to the job as it continues, and snag a second.
If only having a first novel published meant making enough to live on
If you’re interested in poaching me away for a job, though, now’s the time

Ah, jeez. That totally & completely sucks.
2. Greg van Eekhout on Feb 3rd, 2006 at 12:16 pm
That’s just utter crapass. Sorry, man. May the doors that close cause windows to fly open.

Damn, and I’d always thought academia was a really secure place to work, even for non-profs.
I’ll keep my eyes open for good jobs. I have a few job agents set up to look for similiar jobs.

Do you need to stay in Ohio? Losing a job is a hard hit, but you’ve got six months notice. That’s enough time to do a good, thorough job search. Would be a good opportunity to get out of the rather strange little subcultural enclave you’re in and find someplace more cosmopolitan. Try Ann Arbor!

That blows. Best of luck finding a new job. Hey, a small silver lining is that you have until July to find something new. But still, crappy timing.

Sorry to hear about the shitstorm. On the bright side, that may mean the gods are finally looking at you as a threat. Keep it up!
I have a few friends in the Cleveland area that occassionally send me decent-to-cool job opportunites in the area. If I find one any that’d interest you, I’ll pass it along.
Alex.

Sorry to hear about the last paycheck! Hope you find a great job writing copy about airships, sword fights, and the Caribbean scenery.

I’m so sorry to hear that the bad news kept on coming this week. There’s not much else I can do than buy your book, which I will therefore do.

Sorry to hear about all the bad news. I’m mostly a lurker here, but I’ve been reading your blog for more than a year now. If you’re interested in programming/systems analysis in an academic environment, there’s a spot coming open in the next month or two at a community college in the Cincinnati area. I’m not sure if that’s exactly your area and it’s probably way too soon for you, but feel free to drop me a line if you’d like more info.

That sucks. If I hear of anything up here I’ll let you know, though Columbus is probably a nicer place to live.

Dude,
How did this happen? The timing is severly ironic given all the pushes to this site that the wit will create this weekend.
I’m severly bummed. I look forward to talking you sometime about this.
12. Michael Canfield on Feb 3rd, 2006 at 9:35 pm
Bummer. But it sounds like you have a clear idea of what you need, and time to look. I think you will end up with something much better in the long run. Good luck!

Oh, ouch.
I meant to pop over here to give my condolences about your grandfather, and now I must condole on other things, too. My sympathies.
