Context -Next- Weekend
September 30th 2005 at 2:39 pm
Arggh.
Context is next weekend. I swapped last year’s date with this year’s and put it in the wrong weekend on my calendar.
I give up my organization crown, unworthy that I am.
This Weekend: Context and Context Writers Workshop
September 30th 2005 at 11:58 am
I’ve been bad about updating my ‘appearances’ area, but I will be at Context, a small book-focused convention in Columbus, Ohio, this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. I am one of 3 writers teaching the workshop. Here is my schedule:
Saturday:
9am-11am: Writing Workshop, Lectures
11:15-12: Reading (I’ll read a selection from my upcoming novel, Crystal Rain)
3pm-5pm: Writing […]
All Artists Are Inherently Right Wing?
September 30th 2005 at 9:14 am
That’s what Ann Althouse maintains:
To be a great artist is inherently right wing. A great artist like Dylan or Picasso may have some superficial, naive, lefty things to say, but underneath, where it counts, there is a strong individual, taking responsibility for his place in the world and focusing on that.
I call bull because it’s […]
We’re All Memory Chips
September 30th 2005 at 9:09 am
Forget the implications and problems of creationism that is getting shoved at people these days, I like this from an ID advocate lawyer in the courtroom in Harrisburg:
“For all we know, the world may have been created five minutes ago and we’ve all been implanted with memory chips.”
I want a sticker with that written on […]
Intergalactic Medicine Show

Orson Scott Card is creating a webzine, and you can see the template and look of the thing up already. Nice art.
No word about how to submit, though through the grapevine and message boards at Hatrack River, his personal site, it looks like graduates of his workshop are making some sales there.
Oops, here’s the link
Palm Is Dead, Long Live the… er, Palm?
September 29th 2005 at 8:41 am
The Treo 700 is a drop dead gorgeous machine I wish I could afford. However it signifies a death knell to the PDA operating system I currently use, Palm OS. The Treo 700 uses windows mobile OS.
As of ~2000 I’ve been using a PDA to keep my shit in gear, and I’ve come to rely […]
Always A Weird Day When You Agree With Buchanan
September 29th 2005 at 8:09 am
So the Instapundit has been running a series of posts about getting rid of pork projects from the government to pay for Katrina/Rita rebuilding rather than just putting the country further in debt. I like that, fiscal conservatism was always my favorite conservatism. So I’m waiting on a sandwich at the local coffee shop flipping […]
Radio Technology and Podcasting
September 28th 2005 at 1:20 pm
I gave a talk today about Radio, Technology, and Podcasting to a Radio Class here at the university. It was pretty informal, and I kicked myself later for not recording it and slapping it up here, but here are my crib notes, you might find something interesting in there, and I don’t want to lose […]

Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu has a book out! Nnedi shares the TOC with me in the anthology Mojo Conjure Stories and in the anthology So Long Been Dreaming: Postcolonial SF/F, but you may also remember her from her story The Palm Tree Bandit on Strange Horizons, or her excellent essay ‘Stephen King’s Super Duper Magical Negroes‘ which […]
Daikaiju Squid!
September 28th 2005 at 8:21 am
From Japan, the land of Daikaiju monsters, comes a scientific expedition that is the first to film and photograph a ~25 foot long giant squid.
How cool is that? I’ve been fascinated by giant squid since I was a little kid and read 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, and my favorite scientific unsolved mystery was always […]
