Margaret Atwood writes about the necessity of SF, apparently changing tack on her previous claims that she absolutely did not write SF (marketing/literary acceptance strategy on her part? I don’t know, but it’s nice to see her giving props):
it is still the human imagination, in all its diversity, that directs what we do with our [...]

June 30th 2005 at 2:48 am

I added 2000 words to Ragamuffin today, a good day of writing. So now I can blog some newsletter news.
The July newsletter is being put together even as we speak, and will be featuring an interview with Elizabeth Bear. If you want to sign up, use the form on the left hand side of the [...]

Nice stretch

June 29th 2005 at 2:53 am

Put in 2,500 words tonight. I’m getting back into this novel writing thing, yes I am. I was having trouble breaking 1000 over the past couple weeks. Now, I broke that with passion.
It’s all about practice, getting those writing muscles going that have been dying off from lack of daily hard core long sessions like [...]

Belated Clarion Trip Report

June 28th 2005 at 3:50 pm

So after arriving at the sorority house (Kappa Kappa Gamma yay!) I hung around a bit, met a few clarion students, talked to Charles Coleman Finlay about what he had planned as a schedule for us the next day, and talked most of the people I encountered into going to dinner at the Caribbean place [...]

Samplings

June 28th 2005 at 1:35 pm

The Book Standard has an article about releasing free ebooks featuring Cory Doctorow and Charles Stross. Patrick Nielsen Hayden’s weblog references the article because it finishes off with a quote by Patrick. I found the article interesting because while visiting Clarion someone asked me if I was going to release my book Crystal Rain online [...]

Stephen Leigh talks about his approach to writing. Interesting stuff.
I just arrived here at the sorority frat house that Clarion is housed in. For some reason, that would have been a much more exciting and mysterious place to be, say, ten years ago, but the pictures of grinning frat girls all over the walls where [...]

Clarion

June 22nd 2005 at 1:53 pm

I should also mention that on Monday I confirmed that I’ll be driving up tomorrow to East Lansing to join Charles Coleman Finlay in talking to the students at Clarion about various writerly things Thursday/Friday. I’ll be at Clarion later in the day (schedule still up in air), and be there most of Friday. I’m [...]

I apologize for all the spam in the comments, I’m working to get mt-blacklist up and running again.
Emily and I disappeared yesterday to go to Cedar Point as an anniversary fun day (today’s actually our 2nd anniversary, but today Cedar Point was supposed to have some mild thunderstorms). It was a great time, though we [...]

Copy Edits Done

June 20th 2005 at 2:22 pm

Copy edits are done for Crystal Rain and mailed back to Tor. And not even as I typed this the mail came and 10 cover flats for Crystal Rain were in a package for me. So I promptly ran down to my library to find a hardcover book and wrap the cover around it.
Drool.
Okay, quick [...]

Keeping On Keeping On

June 18th 2005 at 2:19 pm

Only 70 pages left to copy edit. Woo hoo.
Yesterday we went to garage sales. Nineteen of them. Found a few things, like four dining room chairs that almost match a large oak table Emily found at a sale not too long ago. They’re all in great shape, just need stripped, stained, and some shellac [...]
