Food Day Off

September 30th 2004 at 4:08 pm

So I’m doing this thing where I’m being very strict and controlling of my diet, which is cool, because I’ve gotten some results without heavy weighlifting, which I don’t have time to do right now (not until after the rewrite). I let myself have one ’splurge/binge’ day every two weeks, and today I picked as my two week day.

I started out with a Belgium Waffle and some french toast sticks at the school cafeteria. I felt full, even though that wasn’t an excessive amount of food I just felt logy, full, and tired. Then for lunch I had sloppy joes and a biscuit/stew and some brocolli and cheese soup, and then for a snack I had a honey bun.

The though of dinner later tonight with some friends is actually unappetizing at the moment. Funny thing is, two months ago this would have been a perfectly normal meal set. My acid reflux is up and I feel so unhappy. Same thing two weeks ago, I was happy to get back on the diet after eating ‘normally’ for a day just so I could feel good again.

The one bad note about the diet (a sort of lo-carb type thing that’s been good to me in the past, I’ve lost 2 inches of the waist in 4 weeks, and I don’t seem to be losing that much muscle, which seems to sometime happen on a reduced card diet, and I certainly don’t want to lose muscle) is that I’ve had some no-sugar chocolates that use maltitol (sugar alchohols) though they have the ’splenda’ sign on them, and while splenda agrees with me okay, the maltitol used in chocolate coverings totally disagrees with me.

So today I had a chance to eat a regular candy bar, and thanks to some unintentional pavlovian conditioning, found I had no desire whatsoever for chocolate because the last couple weeks any chocolate i”ve nibbled has had maltitol in it and made me miserable.

Odd.

Even though I’m full right now, I am going to eat a light meal and then have some ice cream. It’s been a long long time since ice cream, so I think I’ll have some tonight.

How -is- the novel coming? I’ve got about 200 pages left to edit, and I’m on the downhill part. I took Tuesday off to get a swatch of tough stuff out of the way, and I’m blitzing through. I may take another day off next week. My late summer goal was to finish it before Worldcon, but I was told I didn’t have to kill myself, so it’s the 2nd half of October I want for turning it in.

If October goes by with me still working on it, you can all just shoot me, because I’ll be considering it myself.

Sending encouragement dances your way to assist in your fitness and writing efforts. As for the latter, how about some cyanide laced something? Guns are so…messy. I’ll even put it in whatever you’ll be binging/splurging on that month ;)

Yo, being a little harsh on oneself are we not. Read fight club dude, good book. Anyway as for all that diet stuff, man you would not survive here in England. They do not really work out. They are just naturally skinny or something. I will say though that all their food is extremely bland and you have to pay for condiments. They do not eat that often either. Its weird. The only reason they eat is so that they can drink later. There would be no social life here if there was no such thing as alcohol. Its amazing. But funny thing, is they do not binge drink as much as people in America. I have only seen one person throw up. Well Anyway…best of luck on the story…..GET-R-DONE
