So yeah, I’m noticing the comments spam and have been wacking at it. I’m looking into solutions.

This is so annoying. Advertising through spam is like trying to sell a thirsty man water by drowning the entire world.

I’ve never been able to get mt-blacklist to work, but I took a suggestion from David Moles and edited the templates for the comments to remove the submit button, forcing people to use the preview button.

It hasn’t gotten rid of all of them, but it’s slowed the torrent. If my levels get back up to what they were before (5-10 a day) I’ll just turn the damn comments off. I have enough problems with my inbox.

Oh, also, comment spam is a lot less about the advertising and more about accumulating google juice. Get yourself linked from googled comments sections on a few hundred sites, and suddenly, you’re the top ranked entry in your relevant searches.

Underhanded bastards. On the plus side, it means legit commenting on other people’s sites will give you your own google juice.

I use MT-Blacklist. I had no trouble installing it and I highly recommend it. Looking at my activity log I see that it blocked 15 spam comments in the past 24 hours.

I’m going to try to install MT Blacklist soon (can’t afford upgrade to 3.0 anyway, might as well make MT 2.61 as tricked out as I can from here on and settle in).

I killed the IP address most of those i-direct tv comments were coming from. Fuckers. I’ll tinker with blacklist Monday.

Oh, and thanks for the tips, guys.
