Journal Entry
First Half
February 29th 2004 at 3:34 pm
Friday’s day of feeling quite accomplished flipped over into a bitching Saturday, when the payment (less Agent percentage) for signing on the novel came (it’s half the advance, the other half comes in when a final draft is turned in in June).
While it is more money than I’ve ever gotten for writing, I should photocopy it and show it to my boss to prove that I’m not about to quit my job and leave.
After depositing that Em and I drove down to Hamilton, two hours south, to see Janis Ian perform (which was super cool). Saw Mike and Carol Resnick, Steve and Denise Leigh, Linda Dunn and her husband Greg, and Jack Nimersheim. We didn’t get to speak to anyone other than Linda much, but it was cool seeing them all. They were going to all go down to Applebees, but it would have added 40 minutes to our trip back up to hang with them, and I was tired enough for the two hour drive ahead, so decided to bug out after saying hi to Janis.
I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a live concert before. I’ve been to some recitals, a couple plays, and symphonies, but never a regular concert. I’m glad we went.
So, Emily and I are pretty much going to be getting a house. We’re mortgage loan shopping right now, trying to find the best offer and group we feel most comfortable going with. There is a house we really like and it’s available. It’s one of those things were we would regret not doing this, so we’re going to jump.
In four months, I will have an office.
And a home gym.
How fucking cool is that?
