2003 in review
December 31st 2003 at 1:03 am
The year in review. Why not? I do it every year. 2003 has been an interesting year. I got many things accomplished, and I dropped the ball on other things.
In my non-writing activities I got married (woo hoo), got promoted at my day job, moved my day job to a 10 month contract, and moved to a very nice apartment (with a great landlord) within walking distance of my day job.
Writing. Let’s see. I submitted short stories 27 times, and garnered 3 sales out of that (Anakoinosis, Her, and Smooth Talking). I’m really going to have to increase the number of short story submissions there, as it has dropped dramatically since work started on the novel. I also failed to submit much outside of the usual genre locations, something I promised myself I would start doing last year, but didn’t pull through on.
I saw a record number of stories appear this year. 5.
I rewrote the novel twice over the year, and wrote 4 new short stories. Not too impressive, I’m going to have to ride myself a little harder. There was also a 2 month debacle where I kept trying to write a short story that wouldn’t gel. I should have tossed it and moved on quickly. I know better than to get fixated on a lost project.
Milestones? Sold my first novel.
I attended a number of conventions: Confusion/Balticon/Confluence and Torcon for fun. I also attended a kick ass novel workshop.
Not a bad year.
