Parsec died?
September 30th 2003 at 10:37 pm
Was over at Ralan.com looking for an email to send a query to about a story that’s been at Parsec for well over a year.
Couldn’t find it. Then I tried the Parsec website and it was dead.
Finally found Parsec in the dead markets area of Ralan.
Should have checked there a while back, huh?

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Andy Beckett: The forgotten story of Chile’s ’socialist internet’
When Pinochet’s military overthrew the Chilean government 30 years ago, they discovered a revolutionary communication system, a ’socialist internet’ connecting the whole country. Its creator? An eccentric scientist from Surrey.
Line edits
September 29th 2003 at 11:36 pm
Just finished the line edits on the proof of ‘Smooth Talking’ for Marsdust and turned them in to Steve Nagy. Hopefully he likes some of the extras I stuck in there (including a much better last line than the original). I’ve always struggled with what note to dive off on, but this felt right.

In which our landlord rocks!
September 29th 2003 at 8:26 pm
We have a way cooler landlord in this apartment we moved to than the last landlady. The landlady always took days to reply (even when the problem was that the shower wouldn’t shut off and was going full blast. 2 days! The water bill was in the hundreds for 2 months! Grrr).
So the weather has […]
Waiting For The Zephyr

My little 1-2-3 punch over at Fictionwise is finishing up with Waiting for the Zephyr.
When the fuel went, Mara’s town turned to windpower. They struggled on as the lights left, as the cities fell fallow, and plastic became a memory. Their only link to the outside world is the Zephyr, and now it too has […]
Music that’s fair?
September 29th 2003 at 9:43 am
Magnatune is a record label that uses the Creative Commons license to distribute music. After Cory Doctorow’s CC release of his own novel, I’ve been paying more attention to how artists might benefit (monetarily, I’m not quite the neo-Marxist Cory is) from such a thing, as well as the audience.
I was fairly impressed with the […]
Fanamatrix
September 28th 2003 at 1:25 pm
Those of you with nothing to do this Sunday and have a fast download pipe might consider checking out the fanamatrix as you wait for for the real thing to come out.
I love all the different ways humans find to use up their spare time!

Wired News: Segway Pulls Scooters Off Street
I’ve said it before. Bike.
Bike.

Kinda saw it coming

In this journal entry Jason writes that Chuck Palinhuik came out out of the closet and Jason says:
Puts a different spin on Fight Club, doesn’t it?
Actually a good friend and I had a debate over the homo-erotic themes in Fight Club. I found it oddly similar to some of EM Forster’s relationship themes in ‘Howards […]
