So the FCC is seriously
May 30th 2003 at 1:55 pm
So the FCC is seriously relaxing rules on media ownership despite only 11 of 9000 emails supporting this. So I wonder: why solicit public opinion if it doesn’t mean shit? Meanwhile only crickets can be heard in general media news sources about this change.
I also caught this article at TCS Tech about exercise and diet.
Take in more calories than you expend in the course of the day, and you’ll gain weight. Expend more than you take in, and you’ll lose weight. It only takes a few extra calories a day over the course of a year or two to cause a slow weight gain. It doesn’t matter whether those extra calories come from an apple or from a cookie. Calories are calories. What’s more, eating the same number of calories every day while performing less physical activity will also add the pounds. It’s a delicate balance between input and output, and it isn’t at all clear that excessive input is the primary cause of our obesity epidemic.
I would amend some of the statements. Apples have more water weight and fiber, therefore an apple will fill you up faster and sit longer. An average apple is about 70-90 calories whereas the somewhat healthy oatmeal raisin cookie at Subway is 150 calories. I do think you can use healthy meals to lower your daily caloric intake.
But the article is right about activity. Whenever I talk about fitness there are usually some things that happen without fail. One, the conversation veers away at any cost and with any excuse from exercise (what, work to lose weight!) and focuses on diet, and any number of diets are discussed (blood type, atkins, zone, and so on ad naeseum).
That and I usually get shot down.
Its apparently easy for me to lose weight because I’m a) young and b) male, despite the large numbers of other overweight young males in the world who somehow struggle and fail.
My bad. It must have nothing to do with the 2-3 hours of weights and occasional cardio every week. What was I thinking?
