I just came across an excellent PBS resource on bi-racial identity in the U.S. It is one of the more ignored subjects of race in the US, which takes on a limited duality of either/or when approaching race.

I was fascinated. The site has some bi-racial Medicis, Russian royal family, English royal family, and some of the famous American families who had bi-racial members (George Washington’s brother). Not surprising, but cool to see the research.

More importantly, it features some of the experiences and confusion of being bi-racial. I’m lucky to have grown up in the Caribbean, I cannot imagine the stresses, hurt, and madness of being bi-racial in the US. It was tough for me in the islands coming to some sort of understanding of myself, but here in the US these things are far, far more life wrecking and pain-filled.

Sad really.
