So the FCC is seriously relaxing rules on media ownership despite only 11 of 9000 emails supporting this. So I wonder: why solicit public opinion if it doesn’t mean shit? Meanwhile only crickets can be heard in general media news sources about this change.
I also caught this article at TCS Tech about exercise and diet.
Take […]

I just came across an excellent PBS resource on bi-racial identity in the U.S. It is one of the more ignored subjects of race in the US, which takes on a limited duality of either/or when approaching race.
I was fascinated. The site has some bi-racial Medicis, Russian royal family, English royal family, and some of […]

Dave Kirtley posts his Balticon Con report. My favorite paragraph:
…I packed up and headed over to the bus station, which is always a treat. A gentleman wandering around at the corner kindly offered to relieve me of any money I might not want to lug around. He also cooed endearments such as “pussy” and “faggot,” […]

What I love about the self defence ‘no contact’ jacket for women? The visible arcs of electricity to warn away the bad guys.
Hell of fashion statement. Very cool. Very cyberpunk.
Shame they purposefully won’t make them for men.

Fellow Ohio genre writer Charles Finlay got an awesome writeup in a Columbus newspaper. Tough title though, dude: Columbus author churned out reams of mediocre text before mastering his craft.

Having the government pay random people money to spy on their fellow citizens is a bad idea.
Doesn’t anyone read recent history? Hello police states? Jay Walker is a dumbass and going about this all wrong. David Brin has some similar thoughts, but he avoids the centralizing police state presence by talking about encouraging -people- to […]

Balticon was great. I drove out with Paul and Stacey Melko and Jen St. Claire. Dave Kirtley was my roomie, and I got to meet and hang with with awesome people like Myke Cole, Bill and Laura Shunn, Alan Siler of Meisha Merlin, the staff of Nth Degree, Scott Edelman, Jim Kling, David Coe, George […]

There is wireless internet in the common areas, it’s a bit pricey, but I thought I’d post from the autographing and say hello to everyone.
It’ll be slow, but Keith deCandido is next to me, so he’ll have traffic

I am always fascinated by what people pigeonhole other things as. This commentary is brought on by a quick reject for a story in which the editor noted it was hard sf.
But it was a piece of far future allegorical magic realism.
So my jaw kinda dropped when I read that. I couldn’t care less about […]

This guy is the real Bulletproof Monk…
Speaking of monks, here is an interesting article on Buddhist brain scans. Buddhist meditation seems to bring happiness, calm, self control etc.
I do need to pick up some Buddhist literature sometime soon. I’ve internalized a method of dealing with life by picking the middle path, or always looking […]
