More reviewing goodness over at Strange Horizons, where J.G Stinson reviews the switch.blade anthology and says this of my story ‘Nord’s Gambit’:
A more predictable plot mars Tobias S. Bucknell’s otherwise-enjoyable “Nord’s Gambit,” which explores the amazing feats of a certain school’s staff — cafeteria cooks who make school food completely tasteless, teachers who can grade more than a hundred science papers in one night and actually get some sleep as well, and other wonders.
I’m not sure whether he enjoyed it or not… I think he did. Sorry about the predictable plot, though ![]()
I couldn’t care about the review one way or another, but I swear to God if one more person looks at my name spelled ‘Buckell’ and mentally adds the ‘n’ to make ‘Bucknell’ I’m going postal.
Now off to write a polite letter to the editors to see if I can squash that particular meme before it spreads. Thank goodness SH is electronic
update: thanks to the super-quick SH crew it is fixed. Massive props to Jed Hartman. I’m out.

Just so you’ll know, I did like the story. My apologies for the name misspelling; I can’t recall whether the e-book had it listed that way or not, and I’m certainly not infallible. My first name gets mangled all the time — it’s Janine.

Hi J. G.
Sorry I sounded as annoyed as I did, it was a long week of having my name misspelled.
I’m really glad you liked that story. Thanks. Sorry I got so worked up about the name thing, but the Bucknell was starting to become a peeve.
