Well, speaking of John Scalzi, here is a link to some of his writing advice.
No mollycuddling there.
Somewhere else on his site I loved what he said about writing/blogging online. It is becoming so huge, everyone is doing it, and no one is writing original content but linking to everyone else. Pretty soon there will just be one person writing something and a million running to link to it first.
Funny.
True? Maybe, who knows. I’ve been doing this since 1998 and every year my approach or thinking about what this is for and how to approach it changes.
Right now it is a way of sharing interesting links that I would just end up leaving to gather dust in my bookmarks folder, a way to share conversation, and a bit of promotion (yes, there is an actual reason to come over to my website).
Certainly it beats the old method where someone would put up the ‘links’ page and just have 200 various links up there. I always had this need to explain or comment on each one, and so never really had a links page, until blogging came, and I starting posting a link with comments as often as I could as well as talking about my day.
So it goes…
