Journal Entry

I had an excellent holiday

December 28th 2002 at 7:05 pm

I had an excellent holiday and hope everyone who reads did as well. Sorry for disappearing, but dialing up to get on was a bitch, and I forget to mention that I was gone. I also have been knee deep in the novel revision, chugging steadily along. Before the holidays I was sick, so I failed to update then as well.

But I am alive, though sniffy still and achy.

By the way, there are some great prices on DVDs at Walmart. I got The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Ladyhawke, Ronin, First Knight, and Vol 2 of the Stargate Season 1 for $9.44 each. I watched a commercial-free Stargate episode last night before falling asleep on the couch. I get to watch another tonight if I get enough work done ;-)
This is the obligatory link for this entry on the increasing trend towards trusting in the mystical rather than science, a trend that really bugs me. As much as I am a child of the fantastic and unexplained, and seek to bring a sense of otherness to people in my prose, I am a rationalist at heart. I think that fables are wonderful as illustrations and entertainment, but should remain just that.

It is only late at night when I look at shadows and wonder if there is more there than just patterns of light and dark, when the more rational areas of my brain have tired and are ready to sleep, that I pretend otherwise.

Thinking about it, with only rare exceptions, I write magical stuff, but there is always a rationalist underpinning somewhere that I can later point to…

Interesting.

This brief bit of introspection has been brought to you by the letter C.
