I tackle lots of projects.

I tackle lots of projects. Right now I’m finishing up a column series, the last bit of a short story, mapping out plans for my next 6 short stories, doing research for an article I’d like to publish if my novel ever goes to print about dialect and the modern novel, mapping out the novel rewrite which starts Wednesday on my outliner program, getting two new Tangent Online assistants settled in and started up with all the information they need (from my own convoluted info keeping), getting some stories ready for submission to various markets, queried a few other markets with overdue responses, thought up some notes for the next novel.
Then there is work, where as the end of the semester approaches the number of requests on my time suddenly increase. The daily hour commute is starting to drag me down, along with the deadly winter blahs sneaking up on me.
I workshop a fair amount, and manage to stay on top of that. I’ve read and critiqued a few novels, but during the summer when a number of people were fine enough to critique mine, one of them swapped crits.
And I still haven’t finished and critted his book.
I feel real bad about that, and am trying to finish it in my spare time still.
Not sure how I will make it up to him.
This is the problem with tacking so much. I get a great deal done, but occasionally I do fail. All my self-improvement and time management credos maintain that one should never break a promise, so I’m very adamant about not doing that. So I can’t just fail to hold up on my end of the bargain. The books do say that renegotiating of the promise is acceptable, but after so many months how does that look?
So now this was certainly a failure on my part, and I’m trying to finish this thing and send in the comments. It is rather like coming in last in a marathon: sweaty, tired, defeated, yet still somewhat satisfied.
I’ll be printing it out tonight to make the reading easier. I hate reading off screens right now. Doing too much of it.
