No matter how down I

October 30th 2002 at 5:28 pm

No matter how down I get, reading the Homeless Guy Blog always gives me a window into how much harder some other people have it.
What I find sad about reading the comments area in his journal are the people who feel it necesary to dump on this guy merely for his being homeless, with all [...]

Writing advice is floating around

October 28th 2002 at 5:09 pm

Writing advice is floating around the blogosphere:
Stephen Leigh gives out some rules (or does he?), and talks about why or why not you should use them.
Strange Horizons editor Jed Hartman talks about creating the right titles (don’t give away too much), cover letters (keep ‘em short and sweet), and on the usefullness of copying great [...]

Yesterday we visited my parents’

October 28th 2002 at 1:12 am

Yesterday we visited my parents’ new house, a parsonage (my stepdad has become a pastor). It was big, real neat. On the way home we did shopping, and my sister had us go through the self-checkout lane.
These things are popping up all over, I remember a long rant from a friend one late night about [...]

In Greg Van Eekhout’s latest

October 26th 2002 at 2:12 am

In Greg Van Eekhout’s latest journal entry He talks about a really nice notebook that he just got. Nice pens, nice notebooks, are also linked in his comments area. Which got me thinking about my own writing tool journey…
I think the only reason I wrote on paper was b/c it was during class and I [...]

Apparently blogger was hacked. I’m

October 26th 2002 at 12:27 am

Apparently blogger was hacked. I’m looking into alternatives, but since I suspect a lot of other people were spooked, I may be one of hundreds/thousands doing so. My plans to investigate using moveable type will no doubt need to wait.
Also got a voice mail from my bank saying they failed to auto-pay one of my [...]

*WAIL* Last night my laptop

October 22nd 2002 at 7:27 pm

*WAIL*
Last night my laptop fell off the passenger side seat of my car. No big deal, I have a fairly padded backpack, but when I went into my office to do some writing last night trouble reared. The screen initially stayed black, not waking up from sleep. I didn’t think much of it at first, [...]

This link and the statement

October 21st 2002 at 10:25 pm

This link and the statement (The US engineered the Bali Bombing) is interesting. In a distressing sort of way. Not only does is strike me as slightly conspiracist nutso type speak, but it shows a complete disjoint with the reality of the world today.
To quote: “Sylvia Tiwon, a professor of Indonesian at UC Berkeley, said [...]

Although it didn’t feel like

October 21st 2002 at 8:08 pm

Although it didn’t feel like it, I got some stuff accomplished since the last entry. Finished the rewrite mentioned. Also got word throgh email that it looks like my story ‘Fish Merchant’ will be translated into Croatian, and ‘In Orbite Medievali’ into Hebrew.
How cool is that?

What do people in bible-belt

October 17th 2002 at 11:36 pm

What do people in bible-belt Ohio have in common with people who live under fundamentalist Arab rule? Trying to ban Harry Potter!
It always seems odd to me, sometimes, how similar the attitudes are between those two mindsets (the conservative brands of christianity and their eerie siblings in conservative islam). It was a bummer to hear [...]

Okay, here is the best

October 16th 2002 at 2:18 am

Okay, here is the best price I could find on Writing The Breakout Novel; $10.70. Notice the free shipping.
Here is an interesting link about Porn’s Future. There are no dirty pics there, but it is an interesting rumination on what will happen in the future with the sophisticated computer generation software available. I mean, the [...]
