When my best friend got back from Ireland two years ago he had a whole new set of catch phrases. They all came from the movie Fight Club. I think that year, from lack of sleep, stress, and the prospect of looming finals failure and the spectre of being stuck in a routine, there were times when various parking lots around our college almost got turned into mini-Fight Club locations.

I remember listening to that damn soundtrack on just about every group trip out to the all-night truck stop. It was just one added element of surreality. The depressing, constant gray of the midwest winter, a cold car, greasy fast food, and arguing friends, all overlaid with the trippy sound of the Dust Brothers.

After one particularly grueling 8 hour paper, on my third night of no sleep, I plopped down on in my friend’s bed while he was studying for an exam, cracked open the book, and read it from cover to cover twice.
