86,500 Words, Almost Done!
June 24th 2002 at 3:00 pm
What is it they say? It is not the goal, rather, it is the journey to the goal that counts? I came very close to finishing Crystal Rain by this weekend. Just a couple thousand words close. The novel is 86,500 words long now, I wrote almost 13,000 words in 5 days. Not incredible, I know, compared to many who are more prolific than I.
Three more chapters stand between me and the ability to say, ‘I have written, and completed, a novel.’ One chapter is a doozy. Everything happens in it. It is a very important chapter, that brings many things together for me, so I’m proceeding somewhat carefully.
I was hoping that 87K would be the final length of the novel, but as I got into the end of this, I realized it was going to be just under 90K. That one chapter where everything happens will be one of the longer ones.
Maybe I’ll chop it up and scatter the POVs a bit. I’m not sure. That’s why I’m moving slowly here.
And to round out the week, not only did I sell 3 stories last week, but I checked my email this morning at work and found another acceptance! Vestal Review will be taking my story ‘Kisses’ for issue number 10. I’m not sure when that issue goes to print, but I think it is sometime this summer, seeing as that 11 is coming out in October.
So we’ll make that 4 sales. No complaints here.
Of course, what this means is that it will be another 8 or so months again until I sell something again
That’s the way it always seems to go. After my first batch of pro sales, 12 months went by (all of 2000). That was a bit rough. The next long while was 8 months. I’ll call it a pattern if the next long while is 4 months.
All in all, not a bad way to spend the last week. It gave me delusions of writer, sitting down every morning, writing, working on the novel, getting the acceptances. I’m so hooked.
And now… back to the day job (sniff).
