Saw LOTR. Amazing. I’m actually

December 20th 2001 at 3:46 am

Saw LOTR. Amazing. I’m actually a bit dazed, it was a hell of a visual ride. The most amazing movie ‘world’ I’ve ever been a participant of. Amazing. People cheered at a few points in the movie. It lingered in places. Liv Tyler was a little hard to fit in the role, but all the other casting was spot on.Closest book-to-movie translation I’ve ever seen. When I got back Emily asked me if I liked it, and I said I hadn’t figured that out yet, I was still trying to reinsert myself in _this_ world. Some of my favorite movies have a visual element to them that endears them to me; Bladerunner had plot holes, but is a beautiful mood piece. So did the Matrix. I loved X-Men for its translation of my favorite comic-book character. LOTR pushes them all down and totally raises the bar. Despite the few skips I noticed for me it worked very well. Imagine all the visual power and visual ‘bigness’ of the recent Star Wars, double that, and then realize that the plot here is actually pretty _sweet_, and almost all the characters are well done (all I did to accept Liv was let out a deep breath, whereas Jar-Jar had me swearing at the screen). Ian Holmes as Bilbo, I believed it after the first minute. Ian McKlellan (?sp) _is_ my mind’s Gandalf, no two ways about that. Well, that doesn’t do this movie justice, but there you are. I was so _there_ man.So anyway, there was a fantasy piece I was writing, but I’m tabling it until I recover, because I don’t want to do fantasy for a while, because my subconscious has probably been quite affected.I wasn’t as addicted to LOTR as most people are who read it, I leaned more towards the first book The Hobbit. But the movie swept me off my feet more so than the books did. Primarily b/c I am more of a visual-oriented person, but wow.Wow will be my official rating for this. The only thing that sucks about it is that the end is not -The End- but merely ‘to be continued.’ Arggh. Star Wars, I can wait, cool. But 365 days till the next installment, good grief.Arghhh.At 3 hours a pop, I would have sat in the theatre for another 6 hours to experience the whole saga. Hell yeah. I didn’t want to leave, I really didn’t.
