Well yesterday was interesting. Woke
October 31st 2001 at 6:58 pm
Well yesterday was interesting. Woke up nice and early at 8:30, and got to work at 9:50. Supporting the conference (350+ according to some) was hectic. But there was a little surprise that I hadn’t expected…
Turns out Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway from Star Trek Voyager) was here at Bluffton College, as her husband is running for governor of Ohio. He showed up to speak to a small group. Knowing that I am an SF writer and whatnot, people made sure I was able to take time out from supporting tech for the conference and go have lunch at the meeting.
Well, they ran late, and I was running around with tech stuff, but I was able to walk into the conference room with a sandwich at 12:30 and sit at a table to eat and listen, and then realized that the seat they saved for me was right next to her. A classis double take moment on my part.
Anyway, I got to talk to her briefly after her husband was done speaking (he seemed to have neat opinions, at least there), and then the college president made sure we met and said ‘hi.’ The communications photographer snapped a picture of us, and then I had to run off to go do some more tech support, but it was a nice 20 minute interlude and I have something fun to post to the journal today, and sometime later this week, a picture of me and Kate Mulgrew to stick somewhere on the site for fun. When I get around to revamping I’ll the proof in hand, so to speak :-).
Also in the mail today, a rejection from Challenging Destiny.
And so it goes.
